Enhanced Oil Spill Remediation Using Environmentally Asymmetric Dicationic Ionic Liquids: Synthesis, Characterization, and Evaluation

The disastrous consequences for society—economically, environmentally, and socially—caused by oil spills encouraged us to treat this problem. target of work is synthesize new amphiphilic dicationic ionic liquids (Ia, Ib, Ic) evaluate them spectroscopically gravimetrically as potential spill dispersants at different temperatures cover cold warm areas. synthesized ILs were well characterized tools analysis their surface activity thermal stability. Ia, Ic showed good dispersion effects, which recorded be 5.32, 20.45, 33.61% Ic, respectively, 10 °C 12.28, 52.55, 66.80% 30 with a dispersant-to-oil ratio (DOR) 0.8:10 (wt.%). Acute toxicity tests elucidated against Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus fish confirmed slight determining LC50 value greater than 100 ppm after 96 h, 13.25, 17.75, 37.5 mg/L respectively. Overall, the can represented sustainable materials toxic chemicals disperse spills.
